Trial Academy session for June 1, 2017

This is the first ever session of the Trial Academy. The session was divided into three parts.

The first part discussed the “Proper Decorum in the Courtroom”. To have a balanced input, Justice Gabriel Ingles gave his wisdom and insights on proper decorum from the perspective of a Judge and Justice while Atty. Democrito Barcenas, with more than fifty (50) years experience, shared his experiences about proper decorum in the courtroom.

The second part of the session discussed about “Unlocking Trial Difficulties.” This was kick started by the IBP Cebu Chapter President, Atty. Mundlyn Misal, who presented a powerpoint presentation about the courtrooms in Cebu, Talisay, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. This gave the participants visual inputs as to the location of courts as well as court set up.Trial Academy Executive Director, Atty. Paulino Labrado discussed about the common difficulties encountered by new practitioners, as solo practitioners or as associate lawyers.

Participants were given a performance task exercise. They were given documents, which they should turn into a Complaint. They were to submit their Complaint on the next session. The best complaint would be awarded with a cash prize during the Law Week.

The session ended with the participants’ evaluation on the program and lecturers.
